1 piece large, clean, top Umbalite garnet rough labeled by our lab guy as “top facet rough.” Umba Valley, East Africa This is real Pink Umbalite and not us “calling any pink garnet,” Umbalite. Discovered in the Umba River Valley. If not GONE at the Phoenix show we will lower price but doubt it will be here. This clean material should yield minimum a 5.25 PLUS Carat faceted gem in the hands of a skilled cutter, cutting for size and it could yield more. We feel confidant in 33% minimum yield. We of course can’t guarantee your cuts or individual cutter yield but we assume cutters will be going for eye clean faceted gems. This should deliver a very big clean gem. Often called Malaya as a group name of East African garnets of unusual color this is part of a large parcel that has been vaulted a few years until now. from the 2015 find that produced some of the finest rough. I was wisely advised to hang on to it and have for a few years but must sell it now.
52.00 per carat. This would be below any we have found of this quality. THE TANZANIAN GOVT. has now nationalized garnet mining and shut down peripheral indie mines and will not be allowing import of anything but fa ceted gems cut in Africa. We know what this means.
Inspected by 2 GIA certified gemologists. Absolute top grade Umbalite.
This large very clean piece is a top piece of rough, no brown tones and capable of delivering a top gem in top pink.
